...Along with his wife Leonie runs Milners, a department store in Leyburn. The shop has been run by five generations of his wife’s family and has a traditional feel with a modern outlook. He likes to give back to the community as he receives a lot from it and is an active member of the local business association.
What makes Wensleydale such a special place?
The people, as once you start chatting you never know where it is going to go. You will find out all sorts of things, such as who they are and how they connect with others. With my work I get to see the whole of the Dales especially the outer reaches, which only a local person normally sees.
Where is your favourite place in Wensleydale?
Leyburn town with its community who support each other there is a feeling of belonging to something both special and unique.
What is the best event to take place in the area?
Definitely 1940s Weekend, it brings so many people together who come into Leyburn, which is good to see. It is a big social event and the town is really busy with many events here and on the railway.
What piece of information or advice should people have when they visit here?
Get out and explore and don’t have a rigid plan. Don’t be scared to talk to the locals, as they will be interested in you where you come from and what you are visiting. They are proud of the Dales and want to show it off and will tell you a few interesting tales.

You do not need to go out of Wensleydale, many residents feel that they do not need to go anywhere else for their needs such as shopping, restaurants or attractions. You can have a lot of fun is exploring if you have an enquiring mind.
